Grace Academy Orphanage, owned by my homestay mom, Regina (The kindest most generous woman I’ve ever met) is in need of school supplies and toiletries for the children living there. This includes notebooks, pencils, and more importantly, soap, toilet paper… and other basic necessities we don’t give a second thought to that are essential for their day to days. There are about 60 children actually living at the orphanage, and every dollar goes along way. I think the exchange rate is 85 shillings to the dollar. Raffy Girardi and co have already been so generous as to help donate chalk and some other supplies for these kids and we are so thankful! I’m hoping their generosity is contagious. If you’re interested in helping, please email me at Jazminlee23@gmail.com or send your donations via paypal to the same email address.
A friend sent me this with the words “The best way to lead is through example. Thanks for the encouragement…”
My heart is overflowing and I can’t even express how wonderful it feels to already be influencing others in such a strong way through this Kenya endeavor. I wish my friend all the luck in the world and I will do everything I can to make this new trip happen for them.
And thank you again for the millionth time to those who continue to support me with this. It’s a wonderful thing to help others. It’s a wonderful thing to see the world outside of our very thick social bubbles in the process. There is so much to life and we can see it all, while having what does and does not truly matter be put into perspective, by stepping out of our comfort zones in an attempt to better the days of a fellow human being in need… I am beyond excited.
On a lighter note, you guys should check out the latest single from my friends The Flies, a local New York band. The guys and the talent have a classic NYC rock vibe of yesteryear that I can’t get enough of. ♥
(Tiny fun fact: Band members include singer of another retro glamrock favorite of mine, StarBolt9, and a former rockstar theatre professor I had in college! Guess which one. Small world is small…)
